The SPLC is the most trusted authority for news and information about the legal developments that student publishers and their advisers need to know. We need everyone's support to keep the SPLC's services free and readily available, and the backbone of support comes from contributing SPLC members.

Membership Privileges

SPLC members do not have voting or governing authority over the Center's business operations -- but they do get some pretty cool perks. They include:

  • A one-year subscription to the SPLC Report, a three-times-yearly magazine that keeps you informed of all the changes in student media law and challenges to student free expression in schools and colleges nationwide.

  • Legal Alert, a members-only monthly e-newsletter, with news and analysis about developments in the courts and legislatures.

  • A 10 percent ($3) discount on copies of our reference book, Law of the Student Press, the most up-to-date, comprehensive and easy-to-understand guide to the laws, policies and court decisions that govern student journalists' rights and responsibilities.

  • For school and college memberships, the opportunity to schedule video "chats" with SPLC attorney guest lecturers.

  • Most of all, the knowledge that your tax-deductible contribution is helping promote freedom of speech and better access to public records on campus.

Membership Tiers

  • $15 college or high school student member.

  • $30 individual annual membership for non-students.

  • $60 high school student publication or student media department.

  • $120 college student publication or student media department.

  • $300 associate memberships for associations, organizations or non-student media.
