Frank LoMonte, Executive Director, is an experienced commercial litigation attorney who joined SPLC after practicing with the Atlanta-based law firm of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP and clerking for federal judges on the Northern District of Georgia and the Eleventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. Before law school, LoMonte was an award-winning investigative journalist and political columnist in state Capitol bureaus in Florida and Georgia and in Washington, D.C., with the Morris newspaper chain. LoMonte graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he was a senior editor of the Georgia Law Review. E-Mail

Sunjha Hattin, Office Manager, has a background in business and finance. She has worked for several nonprofits, including the National Wildlife Federation and the Nature Conservancy, and has just come from the membership department of Future Business Leaders of America, which has more than 250,000 members. When she worked for Duron Paints and Wall Covering, she was the only female manager in Northern Virginia.

Adam Goldstein, Attorney Advocate, graduated from Fordham University School of Law in May 2002. He received his undergraduate degree in Internet journalism from Fordham College at Lincoln Center, where he was editor-in-chief of the FCLC Observer. For three years, Goldstein worked as a freelance producer and editor for FoxNews.com.

Michael Beder, McCormick Tribune Foundation Publications Fellow, graduated from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in June 2007. He worked for four years at the student newspaper, The Daily Northwestern, where he served in a variety of roles, including as news editor, Forum editor and managing editor. He interned as a reporter and Web producer at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and he was a Dow Jones Newspaper Fund copy editing intern at the St. Paul Pioneer Press in Minnesota.

A. Matthew Deal, Spring 2008
Scripps Howard Foundation Journalism Intern, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in May 2007, where he majored in political science. At UNC-Greensboro he worked for The Carolinian as a news reporter and a columnist. He also served as Vice President of Recruitment for InterFraternity Council and Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. In December 2006, he joined The Law Office of James B. Weeks as a legal assistant.

Kathleen Fitzgerald, Spring 2008
Louis Ingelhart Journalism Intern, graduated from Illinois State University in May 2007 with a bachelor's degree in public relations and a minor in political science. Kathleen was a news editor, copy editor and reporter for ISU's Daily Vidette. In high school Kathleen wrote for the Joliet Herald News "Teen Scene" section. She received an Award for Excellence from the Illinois College Press Association in 2004.

Emilie Yam, Spring 2008 Scripps Howard Foundation Journalism Intern, graduated from the University of Tennessee in December 2007 with a degree in journalism. She worked at the student newspaper, the Daily Beacon, as a staff writer, features editor and managing editor. She interned at the Tennessean as a Chips Quinn Scholar in 2007 and completed a practicum at the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Mike Hiestand, Legal Consultant, Zenger Consulting, grew up in Alaska and is a graduate of Bartlett High School in Anchorage,
Marquette University's College of Journalism and Cornell Law School. Mr. Hiestand was the Student Press Law Center's staff attorney from 1991-2003. He now works from the West Coast as an independent legal consultant to the Center on various projects and assists student journalists who use the SPLC's extended hours service. E-Mail |

Beverly Keneagy, Development and Communications Consultant, has more than 20 years experience in development, communications, marketing and public relations. She began her career as a news reporter and has worked as the communications director for several state agencies. She most recently worked for a Florida non-profit, where she was a senior manager overseeing communications and development, securing nearly $5 million annually in funding. She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of Florida and is a former SPLC intern. E-Mail |
