Wichita State promises paper will get its funds; task force to continue review this fall

KANSAS -- The student newspaper at Wichita State University will receive its funds as normal in October, but paper staffers remain concerned about a task force formed in response to complaints about the paper's quality.Sunflower News editors first learned about the task force in late March, as they were preparing to go through the usual student government funding process.

After Wichita High School East administrators released a statement Wednesday, the organizations decided to cancel a planned press conference regarding “hate speech” in the student newspaper. Jackie Carter, pastor of First Metropolitan Community Church, one of the groups involved in the press conference, confirmed the cancellation. She said all groups involved “wanted to give the school adequate and appropriate time to follow through on those responses.”
