School withholds paper until election
The Nov. 1 edition of the Eagle Eye included a letter from faculty member Pamela Ashe detailing school-board candidate Karla Dyer's previous efforts to remove certain books from Thomas Jefferson High School. Dyer claimed that the letter was a violation of a state law prohibiting the use of public resources for campaigning ' even though the letter contained no suggestions to vote for or against Dyer.
After district officials consulted with their attorneys, the distribution was delayed until after the Nov. 6 election. The paper was released on Nov. 7, a day after Dyer lost her bid for the school-board seat.
