Judge says district needs to release Web site logs
NEW HAMPSHIRE -- The Exeter School Board voted to make logs of Web sites visited by students using school computers available to the public in November after a county superior court ruled in favor of a father who wanted copies of Web page addresses accessed by children at school. Gillian Abramson, a judge for the Rockingham County Superior Court, ruled that a school district's Internet usage logs are public records. Districts must make public copies of the logs, which contain just the Web site addresses, so people like James Knight, a father of four who brought the lawsuit against the school board, can keep tabs on how well school officials attempt to keep students away from pornographic or violent Web sites.
