New national filtering bill introduced

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A new national filtering bill that would require filters on all federally funded computers that are accessible to minors has been introduced by Congressman Ernest Istook (R-Okla.).

The bill is stricter than Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) Children's Internet Protection Act that gives schools a discount on their Internet providers if they use filtering equipment. Public libraries also are part of McCain's bill. It was approved by the Senate Commerce Committee in June.
